Riker Mount History:
Back in 1919 William Riker introduced his Riker box to the scientific and museum community. The Riker case became a hit as it provided an inexpensive solution to store insects and other specimens in an acceptable dust free case. After about 50 years the collectable and antique community discovered the Riker boxes as a low cost way of displaying collectibles. Even today people are still discovering new ways to use the Riker display case. The Rikers still stack and store well thereby saving space.
A Riker Mount Display Case is a flat box with a lid. The lid has a glass window. The box is made of heavy chipboard neatly covered with a black leatherette-style embossed paper. Large banker pins fit into tiny holes of the assembled case to hold the lid in place or you purchase clips in place of the pins. The box is lined with a generous sheet of white fiber-fill batting. No glue or other fasteners are needed. The soft batting gently presses the items against the glass window, holding them in place. Hint: if the batting does not provide a contrasting background for your items, consider covering it with a colored fabric or felt to provide an appropriate contrast. Keep in mind that felt absorbs light while most other material reflects light. Some Riker Mount display cases have a hook on the back for wall hanging.
